If you have any news please email it to prokick@group.tm and now
- keep your hands up and keep your chin down:-
‘Viva le France’ Last week ‘ForKicks’ exclusively released that
Belfast pro Intercontinental Lightweight Champion Gary Hamilton
was in talks to challenge for the Featherweight World crown in France.
This week we are pleased to inform you that the contracts are signed
and the bout is confirmed. The Belfast man will face the current
champion, Pastor Pascal in the Frenchman’s back yard of Lyon on
the 14th December. A team of supporters including SP’s very own
Sports Editor Alex McGreevy along with top click-pic photographer
Russell Pritchard ( we hope!) will make the trip as Hamilton aims
to follow in the footsteps of his coach Billy Murray at becoming
only the second professional world champion from N. Ireland. Two
recent kick ko’s in under 60 seconds against top names in his last
two outings has suggested - Hamilton in hot form and is undoubtedly
ready for a crack at the world title. ‘ForKicks’ will have a full
report and pictures the next day only in the Sunday People.
Gary Noade-way I’m quitting Recently crowned super welterweight
world champion Gary Noade (39) has no intentions of hanging up his
boots any time soon. The exceptional Downpatrick man still has plenty
of hunger, as he will go on to challenge for the world title at
his preferred fight weight welterweight 67kg against current champion
Chris Carslow (Scotland) next year. The match is confirmed but promoter
Billy Murray and Carslow’s camp haven’t yet set the date. However,
appropriately, St Patrick’s day at the Ulster Hall looks the most
likely date in a double World title header with Belfast professional
Gary Hamilton as was originally planned. As Noade –no-limits Gary
declared during his visit with the Lord Mayor on Tuesday afternoon
, that he intends to finish his practically flawless competitive
kickboxing journey as a professional. ‘ForKicks’ will keep you posted
on the developments, but our advice is to pencil in a trip to the
Ulster Hall around St Patrick’s.

Ring craft with a difference Former undefeated Light Middleweight
World Champion Paul Cummins (Kilkenny) is to be made an honest man
early in the new year when he and long term fiancée Patsy will tie
the nought. We have clinched exclusive rights in front of ‘People
Magazine’ and the photographs from the stars big day can be seen
first only in ‘ForKicks’! Paul was undefeated World champion until
he was forced take a break from the sport due to a severe shoulder
injury he sustained at work. However, his career is now firmly back
on track with five bouts since his return this year, and the former
champ is setting his sights on the middle of next year when he will
challenge for the covenant title he believes is rightfully his.
Galways
‘ Feet of flames Flatley’ scoops second award Last week Galway’s
Owen Flatley picked up and award for sports person of the year from
his local council and this week the Pro/am Lightweight Champion
has done it again. This time he received the award for the prestigious
Galway Bay FM sports star of the year at their annual dinner night
in the Corrib Great Southern Hotel, Galway. Owen, and Stable mate
Ken Horan, will hopefully challenge for W.K.N. world titles at their
respective weights in the new year. Main man, promoter Peter Foley
hopes to bring the fights to Galway bay.. stay tuned as ForKicks
will have it first. The north's very own kickboxing stars were honoured
( see martin Mawhinney's article)
Busiest year for WKN in Ireland The World Kickboxing Network
is celebrating their busiest and most successful year ever in Ireland.
With over twenty five events having taken place in just eleven months.
Irish kickboxers have picked up a stunning 4 European, 6 Intercontinental
and two Pro-Am World titles and Cork’s Craig O’Fylnn who took the
Bantom Thai Boxing Pro world title. Billy Murray is overwhelmed
with the pace of the sports development. “It has been a remarkable
year for Kickboxing our athletes are now becoming a force not only
in Europe but on the World stage. Kickboxing has finally arrived,
it is no longer the sport of the future but the sport for now” Said
Murray. Next year will see even more events as new promoters and
club/organisations continue to come on board with the WKN and promoter’s
like Murray, Foley and Cummins are working closely, to schedule
major events that won’t coincide.
