TODAYS EVENT The big news is, Big time kickboxing is back in Belfast just five weeks after the highly successful Irish championship at the Ulster Hall…. World Championship kickboxing is on today’s menu at the Ulster hall when Downpatrick’s Gary Noade faces tough Ugandan Joseph Mukasa for the Super Welterweight title. It is the first time since 1990 that an Ulster fighter will challenge for a world crown at the prestigious venue. Professional Intercontinental Lightweight Champion Gary Hamilton of Belfast is putting his title on the line when he faces Joel Furtado, Portugal. A host of other Irish talent will square up against opposition from Uganda, Spain, Portugal and Scotland. Tickets will be available at the door a snip at £10 for adults and £5 for kids. The Small Screen Promoter of today’s event in the Ulster Hall, Billy Murray has confirmed that Sky Sports will be broadcasting coverage on two separate one hour programmes on the 4th and 11th December at 9pm. He also sealed a deal this week with the TSN Sports network in Canada who will be broadcasting the Irish Championships and Gary Noade’s Intercontinental title victory over Canadian Matt Cowles last month at the Ulster Hall. The programme will be seen by Canadian fight fans next week.

International News The WKN have sealed a deal with French TV Canal + as the sanctioning body for one of the most prestigious tournaments in Kickboxing funded by the channel. A select few of the World top fighters are selected each year to compete in a Knock-Out Tournament with the winner receiving $100,000 in prize money. France’s Christine Mourer is said to be disappointed that she isn’t taking part in Billy Murray’s International show in Belfast today. However she says she will be back in the New Year to defend her World title when her close friend Gary Hamilton of Belfast aims to become only the second professional World Champion from N.Ireland. Christine was due to face Ugandan Champion Christie Lubega who was injured when in a car accident with team mates on the way to the Airport in Uganda on Monday.

Missing Kickboxer A member of the Ugandan kickboxing team disappeared in Belfast on Tuesday morning this week. Humphery Nsereko who is visiting the City for the International event in the Ulster Hall today was last seen by his team mates at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Ormeau avenue around 10 am on Tuesday morning. He is said to have gone for a walk to get fresh air, after complaints of an upset stomach. Police are said to be quite concerned about his whereabouts and our appealing to anyone who might have seen him to contact the Donegal Pass barracks Tel 028 90 650222. He is described black, around 5ft 8 and was wearing a white or light gray tracksuit and dark monkey hat.

WKN News The latest World Kickboxing Network Officials & Instructors courses have been confirmed to take place on the 7th & 8th of December at the Holiday Inn in Belfast. All kickboxing enthusiasts who want to take their involvement of the sport that one step further are welcome to attend and those interested should contact the WKN regional office for the UK & Ireland on 028 90 651074.

The World Kickboxing network signed the latest member to join the kickboxing revolution this week. Offaly’s John Quigley who is taking part in the event at the Ulster Hall later today against Scotland’s Stephen Neilan will be opening the latest franchise of the Prokick gym in his home town of Tullamore in the early new year. He is taking part in the in the WKN Official & Instructors courses next month when he hopes to earn his instructors license.

A Christmas cracker It seems Irish kickboxers will be busy right up to Christmas as the Prokick Gym in Belfast have confirmed they are to travel with a team to Montpellier in France for a major International event on 14th December

Kickboxing grading The Prokick Gym will be holding their next Grading for adult & Junior members on Sunday 24th November at the clubs headquarters in Wilgar Street Belfast. All members who are ready for the next step towards kickboxing excellence are to submit their names to their club Instructors as soon as possible.

Viking Invasion Repelled by Celtic Warriors Promoter Paul Cummins is over the moon with last weekends result at his Celts Vs the Viking’s event last weekend in the Spinghill Hotel, Kilkenny. Paul topped the bill at the packed hotel and fans were delighted at his convincing points win over European title holder Daniel Nordas. This puts Paul firmly back in the main frame at a shot at a title which could come in the early new year. Team mate and Pro/am Intercontinental Champion Vinny Di Ruscio also had a strong victory when he stopped Christer Kvannen in the fourth round of their contest. In the other two bouts Norway’s Arild Mikarlsen beat David Bourke on points. Bourke was nearly forced to retire after suffering an injury to his arm in the second round, however the kilkenny man showed tremendous tenacity to continue until the final bell and pushed the Viking to the limits. Waterford’s Tony Welsh is one to watch out for in the future, he put on a fine performance against the experienced Thomas “The Tank” Rosvoll in their super heavyweight contest, but narrowly lost out on points.
