Galway
Bay Today Owen Flatley will fight for the vacant pro/am Lightweight
World title today. The fight was in doubt just 48 hours ago when
his opponent Jerome Houn pulled out. Flatley had already suffered
the disappointment when his rematch with Welterweight Champion Chris
Carslow also planned for toady was called off a few weeks ago. He
then set about focusing himself on his new challenge and without
frantic work by the WKN world office to find a credible opponent
it would have been for nothing. The WKN confirmed on Friday that
Anthony Meranche will step up as the second challenger and the bout
is well and truly on. Ireland’s top heavyweight Sean Collier is
also in action, he faces Phillipe Soyer in his second pro contest.
Andrea McAllister, fiancée of professional World champion Gary Hamilton
is in action for the second time when the Belfast girl takes on
local favourite and former Irish champion Amy Charles. In total
there are a staggering twenty three bouts scheduled, so if your
doing nothing and fancy a Sunday drive and an action packed afternoon,
get down to the Leisureland complex in Galway. Doors open 3.30pm

Gary Hamilton was to make his Thai-Boxing debut in Galway today
in the second bout of three scheduled in as many weeks. However,
he received word from promoter Pete Foley on Thursday that his opponent
- Russian born Mike Pazowski now fighting out of Dublin had suffered
a knee injury during his final sparring session. It is a disappointment
for Gary but coach Billy Murray believes it eases pressure slightly
for the big rematch in Norway next Saturday with Norwegian champion
Arild Mikarlsen. “Gary is always disappointed when a match is called
off at such a late stage but it could be a god send. I have doubt
Gary would have beat Pazowski, but Thai-Boxing comes with more risks
and the slightest injury could upset the preparation for next week”.
Said Murray. Gary hopes to arrange the match with Pazowski again
in the coming months once he his 100% fit.
Celts
Advance on Viking Shores The Irish team selected for the Celts
Vs the Vikings return in Bergen Norway are making final preparations
for their invasion this Saturday. The team leave on Thursday and
are determined to stamp their authority once and for all. The teams
have met on two occasions in the last twelve months, with the honours
being pretty much even, but the squad going to the town famously
known as the gateway to the fjords are determined to return with
a clean sheet. Fighters in action are pro World Champion Gary Hamilton
(Belfast), former pro World champ Paul Cummins (Kilkenny), Intercontinental
champion Paul Day (Ards), European Champion David Bourke and late
addition Ben Peel (Holywood).
Rumours of Noade Limits It seems there are no limits for
the current pro/am Super-Welterweight champion Gary Noade. The amazing
39 year old is not only scheduled to fight for a Thai-Boxing World
title in April date to be confirmed, but sources close to him this
week told ForKicks that the Downpatrick Dynamo could also turn to
professional boxing before he hangs up his gloves and boots once
and for all. Nothing has been confirmed yet but we could see Noade
in conventional boxing sooner than we think. More on this as it
develops
