Prokick Bash & Mash II
The hottest event of the year has been re-scheduled from the Holiday
Inn on Friday 31st of January to the Hilton hotel in Belfast on
Saturday 22nd February. This is ProKick Gym 10th Anniversary dinner.
The shift in venues is due to the popular demand on tickets, and
the restriction on seat numbers at the Holiday Inn. “ Last years
inaugural kickboxing dinner show in the Hilton was a great success,
so when people heard we were having another one they started phoning
for tickets, there’s a lot planned for the show, it will be something
special.” Murray went on to say , “The black tie affair will feature
three bouts including a prestige fight for Prokick’s World Champion
Gary Hamilton and a British title fight for Paul Day, with one or
two more bouts along with a guest speaker finishing of with a film
show and an awards ceremony.” Fighter still on target. The date
doesn’t really effect the fighters involved however, Paul believes
the extra time for preparation can only help. He said “My training
is going very well, although having a couple of weeks extra will
certainly be beneficial. I have just four pounds to lose to make
the championship weight which shouldn’t be a problem for the 22nd
February, I’m really looking forward to it and hope to serve–up
a real treat”. So dust of those tux and book the good lady a date
at the hairdresser as we have now a few axtra places - current and
former members are £40 and £50 for non-members. To guarantee your
place at this historic event call Prokick today Tel. 90 651074 or
place £10 deposit. Or drop us a line at prokick@group.tm
WKN News The WKN will continue their expansion - the World
office released details this week that the first ever kickboxing
event will take place in Nigeria. The WKN sanctioned event will
hit Nigeria on the 15th March in the City of Lagos. A sell-out crowd
of 2,500 is expected to witness the spectacle which has been dubbed
“African Warrior Pride” and will feature some of the World’s top
exponents in the game. World Champion Mohamed Samir and European
Champion Andre Alexi will be on the card to name a few. The promoter
of the event Mr Leo Rossini.
In other news WKN World Director Sergio Baterelli of Brazil has
announced he is to promote the ever popular heavyweight K1 in San
Palo. This is great news, as the WKN will stage a title fight on
the under-card. The K1 World Grand Prix which receives unprecedented
TV Coverage worldwide has its finals at the Tokyo Dome in Japan
every Dec. Rumour has it, that K1 could also be coming to Ireland,
stay right here for further developments.
NEW YORK Billy Murray returned from New York this week after
intensive talks with US networks. Great news - that his next venture
will be screened all across North American cable networks. The event
scheduled for June 7th from the Ulster Hall will feature Gary Hamilton
and other Prokick stars along with fighters from throughout Ireland.
You heard it hear first, could it be Mania VI? While in the big
apple, Murray tied-up with old friend Bobby Beckels who is now a
stunt coordinator in the States. Bobby is also the personal boxing
coach for Ireland’s latest heart throb, Colin Farrell. Beckels,
was a protégé of the renowned Master Sken of Thailand and challenged
for a world Thai-boxing title in Japan in 1991. He now lives in
NYC. Bobby may be better know to fans here from fighting ‘The Lemondrop
Kid’ Paul Lenaghan back in the mid 80’s at the Ulster Hall. The
good news for Irish kickboxers is that he has asked Murray to pick
an Irish select to travel to New York in the middle of the year
for competition

Seminar
in Scotland Ireland’s most successful kickboxer Billy Murray
is to travel to Aberdeen in Scotland on 23rd February, just one
day after his celebration dinner in Belfast. The object of his trip
is to co-ordinate a seminar for over one-hundred Scottish kickboxers.
“It is a great honour to have been asked to take this seminar, especially
when it is outside of N.Ireland or Ireland, I get asked quite a
lot of times for seminars. I do just a few selected as my schedule
doesn’t permit and I didn’t like missing my own classes here at
ProKick. They don’t know what they’re letting themselves in for”.
Said Murray
INVASION HEATS UP The Celts Vs The Viking’s – the invasion
will commence on March 8th in Bergen. Promoted by Trevor Ambrose.
Ambrose, now Norway’s adopted son and former World kickboxing Champion
is running the show. Fighters confirmed are: Arild Mikarlsen V Gary
Hamilton 54kg Magnus Hagen Vs Paul Day “Kickboxing is very popular
in Norway, especially here in Bergen this is the first time Irish
or Scottish competitors will visit the land. The introduction of
the WKN here is a big step in the right direction, I’m hopeful we
will be able to bring a professional world title sometime soon.”
WKN World champion tops the bill and the match is made at 62kg.
Hamilton will be joined by a full team from Ireland and Scotland
who will attempt the foray on foreign ground. Another ProKick star
for the trip is Intercontinental champion Newtownards man Paul Day
who may well defend his crown there.
That’s
