Kickboxing
is coming to the heart of Belfast on Saturday when the sport runs
its annual fund raising event. The Parades Commission had an easier
task deciding on this particular march, which brings people from
both sides of the community together. Sportsmen from across the
province will meet at the Prokick gym in east Belfast at 2pm for
the walk into the town.

Organised
by chief trainer Billy Murray, the walk should help the Wilgar Street
gym buy new equipment and maintain old materials. Dressed in full
kickboxing attire, the group will parade down the Newtownards Rd
, proceeding via Royal Avenue, assembling at the City Hall for a
photo opportunity, pausing for a second wind before returning home
via the Albertbridge Road. Established stars like Gary Noade and
Gary Hamilton will lead the parade, which should feature 60 enthusiastic
kids.
Continuing
the theme kickboxing Mania weekend - Sunday’s show is dubbed Kickboxing’s
“Next Generation 2” show is set to rock the Ulster Hall this month
where glory hunting Gary Noade will hit the headlines. The Welterweight
British and European champion will face Scottish champion Zander
Patterson in the Group Theatre on Sunday, August 18. Noade’s outing
will be part of his build up towards an Intercontinental challenge
this autumn.
Also, Super-heavyweight James Gillen will be taking his fifth fight
and is confident he will beat his opponent. “If I can get the left
jab off and do not stand off him then I think I will do well,” he
said. “ I am sure he will be very fast but I think I can pin him
down. If I get him on the ropes I hope I can knock him out.” Tony
Millar, Paul Day and Darren McNally will also take the ring against
opponents from the Republic, Scotland and England. Mark Caddoo*
is returning to the fray after a year off for dental treatment.
The cruiserweight is a big hitter and is looking forward to getting
back into the ring. Promoter Billy Murray hoped to hold Group Theatre
shows each month and believed the 250-seat venue was perfect for
medium-sized events. “I am pretty excited about this weekend,” he
admitted. “There is a great atmosphere to the place and this provides
an opportunity for some of our inexperienced fighters to build up
their records.”
The
first fight will be at 4pm, doors open 3pm. Tickets are still available
from Prokick HQ priced £7.50 for adults and £5 for children, please
don’t turn up at the door as seats are limited. Ring 90651074 for
