Kickboxing
returned to the Park Avenue Hotel with full force on February 24th as
another line-up of rising stars met to do battle.
A controversial decision
for Alan Kilpatrick's first defence of his European title against Scotsman
David Hastie saw the Belfast man hold onto his belt. The judges just couldn't
decide which of the two fighters, who had battled their way through five
electrifying rounds, would take the decision. A tense crowd waited for
ten long minutes as both fighters held their corners and the judges confered.
Even though Kilpatrick was ahead on the kick count, the match a draw both
men vowed to be back in the ring at the earliest opportunity - this time
it will be done in Scotland.

Belfast
favourite Gary Hamilton didn't let us down defeating the European contender
Douglas Morrison (Scotland) in an non title bout. This was the Belfast
man's 3rd professional KickBoxing bout with 3 wins out of 3. Morrison
was down twice in the first round once with a kick once with a punch,
the brave Scot battled back to put himself in the fight and Hamilton under
pressure in the third. It was a seesaw battle in the fourth but in the
dying seconds of the last round, which Hamilton had under control, he
placed a sweet left hook to the body which dropped Morrison. Although
the Scot beet the count the Ref called a halt in the dying seconds of
the last round.
Glen Kilpatrick also
dazzled the 700 strong crowd taking opponent Owen Flatley the distance.
Kilpatrick started well, while Flatley's feet of flames came back in the
third, but it wasn't enough.
The Special Prestige defence between Alexi Andre (France) the current
WKN Intercontinental Champion and Scotland's Hugh White was over in the
first minute. Althought the Scot came out with all guns firing, his brave
attempt in the opening round wasn't enough for Alexi who's power and agility
saw his opponent taste the canvas twice during the bout. The doctor called
off the fight.
Thanks to all who
helped to make this event another great success, from the sponsors to
the people behind the scenes. Special thanks to the Undecard who gave
the crowd a great night's entertainment. Well done to UTV's Stephen Nolan
and our special guests - The Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Team. Other ringside
guests were Owen McMahon - Ireland Biggest boxing promoter (well he nearly
was!) and Secretary of the BBBC John Campbell - its nice to see they've
got an open mind.
