WKN
Championship Kickboxing from Galway 6th May Peter
Foley promoted his first WKN sanctioned event on the 6th of May at the
Land
Salt Hill Leisure centre in Galway.
He has travelled to many events in Belfast and throughout Europe over
the years and has always been impressed with the professionalism and experience
of the WKN Officials, and is looking forward to working with the WKN.
"At one stage we thought we would have to cancel due to the Foot and Mouth
scare, but all is well and we're all looking forward to a great night
of Real Kickboxing" said Peter. Fighters travelled from England Scotland,
France, Corsica and N. Ireland to compete. Topping the bill was Ken Horan
for the WKN European title fight. Other fights of interest was the rematch
between Ireland's Owen Flatley (WKN Irish Champion) VS Scotland's Douglas
Morrison. Last time out the two had a great battle, with Morrison just
claiming the point's decision, but this time is a different story. Belfast's
Glen Kilpatrick (WKN British Champion) VS Pavlenko. Glen was looking to
continue his good run of wins against the tough Russian but Pavlenko proved
too much of a challenge. Kilpatrick was stopped in his tracks as the doctor
stopped the fight in the second round due to a nasty cut over this eye.
Ireland's Ken Horan won the main event which saw him take the WKN Amateur
European Title. Horan and his Corsican opponent both fought very technical
fights in the first and second rounds but in the third Horan floored Alexander
Fenot with a great right hand over the top. A result richly deserved by
the Horan who has been around the kickboxing game for some time.
A well deserved win.

Flatleys Feet Of Flames
The Semi-main
event was between Douglas Morrison from Scotland with Owen Flatley from
the Black Dragon in Galway. Douglas unfortunately lost after a great bout
of non stop action, just last month Flately lost to Morrison in Aberdeen
when he suffered his first knock down of his career, but the brave Irish
Man showed great tenacity and battled back to losing points in Scotland.
Who was it that said revenge was sweet? - Owen Flatley did in Galway
when he did just that by defeating the gutsy Scott. After taking his revenge
the pair showed great sportsman ship after a see-saw battle that thrilled
the packed house at Leisureland.

Sweet as Pavlova - Pavlenko
Shock defeat for Glen Kilpatrick. Glen Kilpatrrick took on Max Pavlenko
in Galway at the weekend. Glen got off to the worst possible start when
he found himself on the canvas in the first round after a flash knockdown.
Despite loosing the first round Glen battled his way back into the fight
and was winning the second, but it wasn't to be his day, Pavlenko unleashed
a flurry of punches in the closing seconds of round two, which resulted
in an old wound on Glen's eye re-opening. The doctor was called to the
ring and the fight was stopped. This will not destroy Glen's hope's of
European glory as he is still set to challenge for the title in Kickboxing
Mania IV in Belfast's Ulster Hall 30th June at his preferred welterweight
division.
