Aberdeen
was the setting for an International kickboxing extravaganza on April
1st
Gary
Langford & Albert Ross will feel very
please with the event even though their main fighter young David Hastie
wasn't crowned champion.
Here is a brief rundown on the bouts:-
He was
to Hastie on the night - Scotland's David Hastie got off to a
slow start against his French opponent
Jean Pierre Ordono. Ordono looked to have the fight under his complete
control after knocking Hastie to the canvas in both the first and second
rounds. It was not until the third round that Scotland young brave heart
found a little of his past form. It was clear by the start of the fourth
round the only way for him to win was by way of knockout and it nearly
came after Hastie connected with several kick and punch combinations in
the fifth and final round at the packed Skea-n- Dhu Hotel - hastie's supporters
rose to their feet in support for the local man, but some how the French
man withstood the heavy attacks, but in the end he just couldn't find
the knock out blow. Hastie lost the fight by a single point and plans
for a rematch are already in the pipeline. However, he will probably have
to travel abroad for his revenge bout. Well done to Jean Pierre Ordono
from France, at 38 it's a great achievement to defend his title.
Former WKN British challenger; Douglas Morrison had the
fight of his career when he fought the WKN Irish Champion Owen Flatley.
Surprisingly, Flatey found himself on the canvas after excellent right
hand found it's way through the Irish mans guard - Morrison went on to
beat the Irishman by unanimous point's decision. This will be one to watch
out for when the pair met in Galway on the 6th of May for a rematch.
Gary Noade from Downpatrick's North Ireland furthered his
unbeaten record on Sunday when he beat
Matt Turner of England at the Skean Dhu Hotel in Aberdeen Scotland. Turner
made himself very difficult to hit for most of the fight demonstrating
a unauthardox style of fighting, but Noade's better boxing skills helped
him to win by a close margin.Well done both boys.
Mark's Feet of Flames prove too good -Lisburn's Mark McGuigan
won in great style when he travelled
to Aberdeen Scotland with a team of four other Prokick fighters. McGuigan
won in the first round by KO when he struck his Scottish counterpart on
the head with a sweetly landed right roundhouse kick. This is the second
time Mark has won in this fashion in three fights and has once again proved
he will be one to watch out for in the future.
Close encounter for Belfast's newest Kickboxer - Belfast's
Darren Thompson fought in Aberdeen
against a very strong and experienced Scot, Steve Kitchiner. Darren got
off to a very nervous start in the first fight of his career. He was under
a lot of pressure in the early stages but managed to keep his focus. Thompson
came back very strong against the Kitchiner who found himself on the receiving
end of some powerful and inch perfect kicks. The fight was closely fought
to the end and was declared a draw by the WKN judges.
Simon
Baird travelled to Scotland for the second fight of his career.
He won his first back in
February by TKO. However, Simon's opponent failed his pre fight medical
and was refused permission to fight. Therefore Simon won his second fight
by way of walk over.
Belfast
Gary Hamilton - Hamilton was involved in a demo bout with two
young Scottish prospects he nursed the pair over two rounds each, no decision
was given.
2 WKN
Scottish Titles - the first of the two Scottish titles saw Darren
Thompson win in a very one-sided encounter against Miguel Gomez. The referee
Andrew Harron stopped the fight in the 2nd round to prevent Gomez from
taking any more punishment.
The second battle of the Scot's saw Hugh Whyte and Allan
Thomas both do battle in what was the best fight of both men's careers.
Early on Wythe was caught well with a powerful straight right hand which
had him on rocky ground, enough for the Referee to give him a count. However,
Hugh Whyte gallantly fought his way back into the fight despite the early
shock. Both men caught each other with some great combo's - it was now
up to the Judges to decide.... Whyte won by a very small margin and was
crowned WKN Scottish Champion. Congratulations to both men who displayed
one of the best fights of the night.
Willie
Whyte back on form
- Scotland William Whyte is with out a doubt back on form. The young Scot
displayed some of the most spectacular moves of the night including several
spinning back kicks, which proved the most punishing to fellow Scot Richard
Towler. Whyte won by a second round TKO after the Referee stopped the
bout.
