Billy Murray Promotions Statement:
Regarding The Homecoming - Wayne McCullough

A determined but subdued audience made their way to Belfast's Ulster Hall for what was billed to be the most important day in Irish boxing in a decade. Local hero, Wayne McCullough, who hasn't fought on home soil for almost five years, was to appear to a capacity crowd to meet Hungarian Sandor Koczak.

At the last minute a cruel twist of fate put paid to that as Officials announced that a routine medical examination uncovered a 2cm cyst in McCullough's brain. Although a further examination gave the all-clear, the determined 'Pocket Rocket' was told by the British Board of Boxing Control that he would not box.

The event went ahead, with some premium boxing taking place. The locals stole the show on the undercard with Adrian Kirkbride, Deirdre Nelson, Stevie Quinn and ProKick's Gary Hamilton winning their bouts.

World title contender Junior Witter had no trouble keeping Steve Conway at bay whilst Dubliner Jim Rock showed the Belfast crowd what he was made of, stopping Brooke Wellby early on.

It was very unfortunate that Wayne McCullough could not appear. We thank all those who did turn up to join Wayne McCullough at ring-side for an interesting night of boxing.

As Wayne heads home for a final test, we wish him well.

Finally, we wish to thank the sponsors, PostHouse Premier Belfast and all the fight fans that turned up for this memorable night.
