WKN - Championship
Kickboxing - Aberdeen
- 28th
October 2000
Gary
Langford and Albert Ross presented another tremendous show in Aberdeen.
After visiting Belfast twice for shows in the Park Avenue Hotel, it was
ProKick's turn to cross the Irish Sea for a Battle Royale pitting the
best of Northern Ireland's ProKick team against the supreme Scottish Kicktec
line-up.
The
eight man ProKick team faced a tough challenge in the Scots, here are
the highlights.
Gary
Hamilton stepped in at the last minute to replace team mate. Although
Hamilton is now in the Pro Ranks he took the brave Scot Dave Hastie for
four rounds of what was an epic battle. This showed Hastie what he needs
to become if he wants to be World Champion material. Although Hamilton
is a weight class above Hastie, Hasite caught Hamilton early on with some
tremendous punching combinations. Hamilton stayed on the outside to use
his kicking ability and it worked well as he demonstrated with a roundhouse
kick to the head sending the Scot to the floor. Hastie was down but certainly
not out as he fought back, showing true guts and courage, pushing Hamilton
to the limits. This a great learning experience for young Hastie as he
will surely be heading towards the paid ranks in the near future.
Glen
Kilpatrick fought hard to take the WKN British title, against opponent
Douglas Morrison. Kilpatrick won by TKO as the referee stopped the fight
in the fourth round. This was a see-saw battle with Kilpatrick taking
a standing count in the second. The pair have met before, last time out
the fight was a draw, this Kilpatrick edged ahead of the sturdy Scot.
This was one of the best matched fights seen in the British Isles in a
long time.
The N. Ireland team also included Stephen Garvin who was unable to fight
at the Quest for New Stars due to a chest infection. Garvin lost this
time out in Scotland on a very close points decision.
Kris
Hanna from Belfast also fought his second amateur fight. His first he
won in the third round by TKO. This time Chris has moved from the 60-kg
class to 66-kg and had a tough battle with Scott Breen although the referee
stopped the fight in Hanna's favor in a third round TKO.
Alan
Thomas Vs Gary Node was an all out war - with Node the Newcastle man showing
the better ring craft in the first and second and in the the last round
it was toe-toe with the Co Down man taking the decision on points.
Niall
McGarrigle had another win, stretching his record to 3 and 0, this time
he was stretched to the limit by Russell Simpson. The fight went the distance
with McGarrigle winning on a unanimous points decision. A
special thanks to Mr. Lex Easton for all his help on the night.
